Singapore Design Week 2024

In August 2024, Monolythiq had the pleasure of hosting a series of workshops in conjunction with Singapore Design Week! With the theme of this year’s event being People of Design, Monolythiq reflected on what design meant to us. 

The team conceptualised and planned for months thinking of how to make the series of workshops readily available to the public. We didn’t want something that only industry people could partake in. With the launch of our creative pedagogical arm, Elevations, we sought to truly make this an experience that the young and the young at heart could join. The team eventually came together and decided on An Architectural Design Thinking Workshop; something that we all cared deeply about!

The two weekends were an amalgamation of people from different backgrounds, disciplines and nationalities. The participants were landscape, interior and even UX designers, but the people who really got our team excited were the non-designers. What made them want to join this workshop, and did they always want to try their hand at design or something creative? The team was hungry to know more.

We had the pleasure of meeting NUS Economics student Harper Chew, who spoke to us about wanting to give Design Thinking another chance - after a school module left much to be desired. She enjoyed the hands-on approach that our workshop offered and left feeling very satisfied that she’d given design another shot.

We came to the conclusion that being People of Design meant that we did more than just designing. We connected, collaborated and communicated new ideas and concepts to the people around us; forming quite an intricate network indeed!
